The Fourth Annual Foreigners Traditional Japanese Dance
Exhibition
Supported by the Agency for Cultural Affairs
Watch a graceful "Nihon-buyo" (classical Japanese dance) performance
by dancers in kimono, live on stage at the Okuma Auditorium.
The actual performers are local and international students from
universities around Tokyo, including Waseda!
What is "Nihon-buyo"?
Nihon-buyo is a form of artistic dance intended for the stage, drawing elements from Kabuki, Noh and other performing arts.
A variety of objects are used as props, such as hand towels, folding fans, swords, umbrellas and canes. Hand towels can become boats, or be used to express sadness through the action of dabbing one's eye; and folding fans when closed become writing brushes or flutes, while when left open can depict waves or the wind!
