Read on for more details...

【note: those who have attended an orientation session AND submitted the report (evaluation sheet) for a porevious language exchange, you are not required to sit the orientation again

- please proceed straight to step 3 of the flowchart

1. Outline
The ICC Language Exchange is a program that matches interested language learners
(one-on-one or small group of three) to teach and learn each other's languages and cultures.

2. Eligibility
Waseda University students, faculty and staff (including visiting scholars and researchers)

3. Period
April 2008 – July 2008 (four months)

*Orientation sessions will be held from April 1st to May 9th (15 sessions)

4. Procedure
Refer to the ICC Language Exchange Flowchart (read me first)

5. Rules

(1) If you want to register for more than one language (maximum of three), be prepared to continue the language exchange with all of the partners introduced by the ICC for a four-month period.

(2) Upon receiving an email from the ICC informing you of the first exchange session, you MUST confirm by replying promptly. Should you become unable to attend, please contact the ICC immediately. Not showing up for the first exchange session without prior notice is not only extremely inconsiderate to your potential partner, but will also automatically cancel your place in the program. Furthermore, repeated rescheduling of the first exchange session shortens the actual time for language exchange, so please attend the first exchange session as scheduled.

(3) Please do not exchange personal contact details at the first exchange session. After the ICC receives the confirmation of both language partners, you will be given your partner's phone number and e-mail address from the ICC.

(4) Matching will be made with consideration to both partners' given conditions. In the case of an imbalance in the number of applicants for a particular registered language, the matching may be compromised leading to a matching where not all conditions are perfectly met. Also, please understand that in some cases we may not be able to find a potential partner for you.

(5) Please make sure to allocate equal time for both languages during exchange sessions.
ex.1: Use the first half of a session for one language and the second half for the other language.
ex.2: Use one entire session for one language and the next entire session for the other language

(6) Please respect your partner's cultural background and values. This goes beyond language learning and is also an integral part of language exchange.

(7) If you have any difficulties or concerns during the actual exchange, please do not hesitate to consult with the ICC staff.

※Note that you will be contacted by the ICC via e-mail (PC) for all the correspondence.
If you put a wrong address or your account is over-quota, it will delay the whole process.
