Supporters Wanted! Talk & Visit Series – Tokyo, a map of the world
A new semester brings us fresh inspiration for events we can do together at the ICC. The warm weather brings us outdoors to rediscover our city and community, Tokyo. Combine the two and we have the brand new ICC Talk & Visit Series! As the largest metropolis in Asia, Tokyo is the heart of Japan's political, commercial and cultural activities, the home to many multinational companies and headquarters of international bodies. Have you ever wondered how things are run in a megacity like this? Now that you are in Tokyo, why don't you join us to unearth the inside workings and stories of this fascinating city?
Under this new ICC Talk & Visit Series, a discussion salon on an aspect of
Tokyo will be held at the ICC lounge and corresponding to its content
participants will go off campus to visit the relevant places. For example,
we can set up a cafe on the United Nations with a study tour in the UN House
in Omotesando; or a discussion on city planning and then visit and talk to
the officers working in the Metropolitan Office in Shinjuku; or also, a
discussion on aging society and visit a senior center and spend time with
the seniors there. We plan to organize several sets of talk sessions and
visits during this semester. And currently we are looking for supporters to
help us make these come true.
Together with local students, this project will be a fantastic opportunity for
you to know more about Tokyo from an unusual angle, about Japan on the
international stage, and also about the world at large. If you are interested
in contributing to the project but unsure of your time commitment, you need only
to submit your ideas and the ICC will help you organize. Activities are scheduled
throughout this semester, one set of discussion and outing per month!
For more information, please drop in at one of the following informal gatherings to meet other interested students and talk about your ideas for the ICC Talk & Visit Series at the ICC lounge on:
1) April 21st (Mon.), 12:20 – 1:20 pm; or
2) April 24th (Thu.), 6:00 – 7:00 pm; or
3) April 26th (Sat.), 3:00 – 4:00 pm.
Please note that attending these gatherings does not obligate you to participating
in the project. If none of them fit your schedule, please contact us to arrange an
individual session. If you already have a great idea for a talk or an outing please
complete the Proposal Form (http://www.waseda.jp/icc/tokyo.doc ) and email it to
talk-visit@list.waseda.jp or bring it with you to the gathering. Don’t be afraid
if you feel uncertain about concrete details, the ICC will try hard to assist you
to make your ideas as practical as possible. You can also apply with your friends!
