The Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies offers a comprehensive financial support, including campus Scholarships such as the Okuma Memorial Scholarship, the Ono Azusa Memorial Scholarship,
Scholarships our for PhD students, endowment scholarships (awarded to Japanese students) and our own GSAPS
Scholarships. In addition, there are various kinds of scholarships sponsored by
organizations outside of the university such as the scholarships by the Japan
Student Services Organization (awarded to Japanese students), scholarships by
private foundations and the Tuition Reduction Scheme (covering 50%, 40% or 20% of the tuition; awarded to
privately - financed international students). Listed below are scholarships granted to students at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies,
in AY2008.
In principle application for scholarships is made after matriculation. However, application for some scholarships can be made prior to matriculation. (Please refer to
the section below 'Application for Scholarships Prior to Matriculation'.) A new scholarship for PhD students has been established in 2009.
Outstanding PhD students can register themselves in order to be considered for this scholarship. This scholarship is available to both Japanese and international students. GSAPS will inform the selected students directly.
Graduate school recipients of 'Category 1' loans by the Japan Student Services Organization, whom JASSO
recognizes as having achieved particularly outstanding results during their
studies, may be exempted from repaying half or the entire loan after the borrowing period expires. In AY 2008, 30% of the recipients of 'Category 1'award have been granted full or partial exemption.

* "Japanese students" include students of foreign nationalities who currently reside in Japan and whose visas' eligibility is that of a permanent resident or a dependent of a permanent resident.
