Course Enrollment
Instruction Methodologies / Degree Requirement
The PhD Program takes advantage of the following efficient and high-quality instruction methodologies to ensure that students are able to complete the requirements for the doctoral degree within a certain set amount of time.
First, the Program has established a clear set of internal rules and regulations that clearly lay out the path of progression for each student, from the time they first enroll until the time they are awarded their doctoral degrees. The rules strictly govern the instruction and guidance of students in the writing of their doctoral dissertations, the requirements for submission of the dissertations, and the standards that will be used in evaluating the dissertations.
Upon enrolling, new students are instructed not only by their permanent project research advisor, but also, 6 months after beginning their studies, each student receives specialized instruction and guidance from several other faculty members who make up a special dissertation guidance committee. Twelve months after enrolling, all students are allowed to submit their dissertation research plan to the dissertation guidance committee for a preliminary review. Next, after a certain measure of progress has been made on the research for the dissertation, a student will present his or her research findings at an interim dissertation defense committee before at least 4 faculty advisors who are responsible for the student's progress. After completing the above process, if a student has a work published in a recognized academic journal, then the student may submit his or her doctoral dissertation if the student has completed at least 2 years in residence in the Program. Submitted dissertations will be evaluated in a timely manner to allow students to receive their degrees at the completion of the semester in either March or September.
Academic Degree
The student who completes the PhD Program in International Studies, will receive a "PhD in International Studies".
