This seminar aims to promote students' better understanding on the basic characteristics of study of regionalism by reading and examining how central issues have developed so far and what contributions each of the major works have made, empirically and theoretically. The seminar then focuses three major specific themes in the case of East Asian regionalism: 1) regional institutions such as APEC, ASEAN+3 and East Asian Summit; 2) functional cooperation such as market integration and financial cooperation and 3) regional values, norms and identity, through applying relevant theoretical approaches to these empirical themes, to comprehend factors that distinguish East Asian regionalism from others.
