Project Research

International Co-operation in APEC Region and Laws

In the APEC region, various types of projects for international cooperation are being processed currently. For example, many projects of multilateral cooperation, bilateral cooperation have been discussed and implemented through the conferences of APEC, ESCAP, NAFTA, and LAFTA in order to settle the problems of the region.
Recently, ARF has also contributed to establish the framework for the cooperation in the field of international security system.

The purpose of this course is to provide students a comprehensive understanding of the aspects of international cooperation including the history, structure, legal framework, actors of various projects which have been done in the APEC region.
The students will learn concepts and practices of the details of the projects implemented by various governments, NGOs/NPOs, and International Organizations.

To achieve the above objectives, students are required to
I. take an academic approach to analyze the various case studies;
II. participate in a project or field study through internship programs with international organizations or NGOs/NPOs to reinforce the capability of knowledge and languages learned during this course.

In the first year, the Project Research Advisor will provide necessary input of knowledge and skills to understand various agenda and issues of the APEC region.
It is also planned for the students to exchange opinions with scholars of academic institutions and project experts of international organizations, in order to promote the students' understanding on the current practices of international cooperation.
During the second year, the students are requested to process and finalize the MA thesis including the description of experience of internship programs of international organizations and field studies of NGOs/NPOs in the region.
