From my experience as a Kawamura Zemi member from April 2004 to March 2006 pursuing my Master in Art, I believe Kawamura Zemi has many features that are most beneficial to the members. The features include:

6 scheduled presentations
Over the ending one and a half year, the students’ thesis writing process is monitored and firm up by having 6 presentations of their 6 projected chapters. The presentations will provide a framework in which the students are more or less force to work in (we know how lazy we sometimes are..!) and the comments that we received from our professor and peers will undoubtedly highlight the area that we have overlooked.

To me, this process is very important because students are force/able to read and accumulate the most relevant information for their intended thesis, either by reading or getting first hand information by way of interviews; and able to gauge the reaction of the future readers of their thesis through the presentations.

Ambiance of the Zemi
A university life is very much coloured by the professors and friends in the university itself. A good professor is always fair and firm and whom we can gain wisdom from; and good friends are whom we share, cooperate and enjoy learning together. I believe the Kawamura Zemi has all these elements. Furthermore, the Kawamura Zemi lives by the three basic rules. They are, first - sharing of information, second - equality, and third-fairness. The spirit built by the professor and the students are commendable and lent much meaning and enjoyment to the life in the university. I believe the Zemi has succeeded in combining hardwork and enjoyment together.

Hopefully, by the end of the two years, you will have a scroll in your hand, and the satisfaction of having working hard in your mind and the memory of a great student life in your heart.

Dear reader,

I hope you will find this website interesting and useful. Instead of just writing official information, regarding our school or zemi, we have decided to write something to reflect our personal views and opinions. As a graduating class of 2006 all three of us, Lisa, Poon and me, are excited and sad at the same time to leave this school in this final semester. It might sound like clich?, but times do go fast. We have enjoyed our time not only in school but outside as well. Well, enough of that, you will know more about this, when you join our seminar.

There are, however, several personal remarks that I would like to say about our zemi. First, this zemi is very well organized. One month before submission of the thesis, you will not have to start from the scratch and write your thesis day-and-night. You will have considerable amounts of materials or papers done by then. Most probably you will have several chapters of your thesis done, with only few more left to finish.

Second, our zemi members are all very smart AND very helpful. This combination makes the environment in the zemi particular friendly and fruitful when we discuss our research. I was given many helpful and innovative suggestions when I was presenting my research. I can say honestly that my research has really benefited from being peer reviewed.

Finally, I would like to point out that the first two points would not have occurred without active guidance and counselling from our professor. His insights and advices were truly helpful in our research. For this, we would like to say thank you!!

Kawamura-zemi is one of the most tight-knit and friendly group/zemi at GSAPS. Students and the professor are all working and helping each other towards writing the thesis as well as getting used to GSAPS life. Professor provides excellent guidelines and help in getting the thesis done. Professor also tries hard to get to know his students. Members get together not only for study sessions but also for fun such as end of the term dinner, "nomikai"s and educational trips.

Professor Kawamura’s seminar group has three main policies of Fairness, Equal Treatment and Sharing of Information. Students are treated fairly and equally. Professor Kawamura always tries his best to support his students to achieve their academic and career goals. We have been encouraged to attend the seminars, seminar trips or do the internships. In March 2006, we had a chance to visit the UN Headquarters, the World Bank and the George Washington School in USA for academic workshops. This is a great opportunity to broaden student’s knowledge of international affairs and international organizations. The tradition of sharing of information in our seminar group has expanded into caring among members. Seniors always take good care of juniors and try to organize non-academic activities such as drinking parties or sightseeing trips together. These make our ties and friendship stronger. I am very happy and satisfied with this seminar group. Thank you very much Professor Kawamura and all members for all your supports and the good moments we shared.
