13th Waseda Global Asia Seminar

■ The Role of Development Consultants in Asian Regional Cooperation

While economic growth is accelerating the demand for all types of infrastructures in developing Asian countries, a vast portion of the urban populations in these countries are still unable to enjoy adequate levels of access to vital infrastructures such as transport and water supply systems. Development consultants play significant roles in addressing this problem. This seminar introduces Ms. Nobuko SHIMOMURA, a development consultant with experience of over 20 years specializing in economic/social analysis, climate/environmental policy and institutional building in regional, urban and infrastructure development projects. She has been involved in a vast array of development projects (transportation, electric power and water service) in Southeast, East and Central Asia. Drawing upon some of her more recent experiences, her talk will discuss how development consultants specializing in economic, social and environmental analysis play significant roles in addressing the problem of sustainable infrastructure development and management and hence contributing to regional cooperation in Asia. This seminar will be a great opportunity for students interested in career in international development/cooperation.
