The Global Information and Telecommunications Institute (GITI) will play a significant role as a leading research organization in the Asia Pacific area. We invite competent researchers, not only from Japan, but also from all over the world. We cooperate with many overseas universities and research institutes. In order to do this, we continue to introduce on-line research and on-line education by the use of broadband ISDN, satellite communication, and the Internet.

The institute has three sections: the Information and Telecommunication Systems Research Section, the Multimedia Science Research Section, and the Telecom Social Science Research Section. Research and education activities are not done independently but each one promotes its research field in collaboration with the others. It also contributes to the standardization of telecommunications by means of creating new technologies and new services.
