| On November 1, 2005 the “4th Korea-Japan Millennium Forum” was held at Korea University, a partner school of Waseda University. The theme for the forum was “Promoting Forward-Looking Partnership between Korea and Japan”.
In 2002, the “Korea-Japan Millennium Forum” began as a jointly sponsored effort by Waseda and Korea University; the following year Keio University and Yonsei University (Korea) also participated. Since then the Forum has been an annual event comprised of these four universities, with each university taking its turn as host of the Forum. This year it was Korea University’s turn.
The first half of the Forum was devoted to the keynote address by Mr. Shin-Ho Kang, Chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries, and to a meeting comprised of the presidents of the four participating universities. The theme for the meeting was “The Future of Korea, Waseda, Keio and Yonsei University-led International Exchange and of Academic Exchange between Japan and Korea”. Each university’s President or Chancellor took turns laying out their ideas for academic exchange between the four universities, which the group then considered and discussed.
The latter half of the Forum was devoted to a symposium for researchers from the four universities where they discussed the topics of “Political, Security Cooperation” and “Economic, Social, Cultural Cooperation”.
Next year will be Waseda’s turn to host the Forum, which is scheduled to be held on the Waseda campus.
