The activities of the Distance Learning Center (DLC) at Waseda University focus on the following three concepts:

• Vitalization: Revitalize university education through e-learning.
• Diversity: Create a wide range of educational opportunities through e-learning.
• Globalization: Reinforce coordination with overseas universities through e-learning, thereby playing a leadership role in educational globalization.

Since its foundation in 2002, the DLC has been demonstrating a great deal of enterprise and innovation through work centering on these concepts. Our past achievements include:

• Improvement and popularization of a new education method, on-demand lectures
• Expansion of CCDL (Cross-Cultural Distance Learning) classes, allowing for cross-cultural exchanges with overseas universities
• Contribution to society through the provision of information about the university to prospective students (Website on the Virtual Entry to Waseda),as well as the free and open publication of educational materials from actual courses provided by the university

Each of these achievements attests to the fact that Waseda University is one of the leading universities in Japan in the field of e-learning provision.

Specifically, the DLC performs the following six functions:

• The establishment of university-wide distance learning promotion plans
• The provision of support for the implementation of classes involving e-learning
• The development and popularization of e-learning methods
• The facilitation of educational coordination with overseas universities through e-learning
• The provision of information on Waseda University through e-learning
• Collection of information and publication of research results and achievements from inside and outside the university in relation to e-learning

It is the DLC's unique position as a university-wide e-learning support organization that enables it to perform these functions.

The purpose of this website is to make necessary information available not only to the students, faculty and staff of Waseda University but also to all people interested in the University's e-learning.
