Waseda University Archives

The Waseda University Archives were created from the former Editorial Department of the University History in 1998, the origins of which can be traced back to 1961, when a body was set up to collect materials for compiling a history of the university and researching its founder Shigenobu Okuma. One of the former Department's main projects, the compilation of The Centenary History of Waseda University (8 Vols.), was completed in 1997. Other publications have included : Waseda University: A Photo-graphic History of 100 Years (1882-1982), The Complete Works of Ono Azusa (5 Vols.), Okuma Shigenobu and His Age and others. Now, the Archives undertake such activities as collecting and cataloging newly found materials, including alumni materials, opening exhibitions and lectures on the university’s history, promoting research projects (a study of Sanae Takata, a History of the Academic Achievements of Waseda University, a Comparative Study of New System Universities in Postwar Japan, and others), publishing Transactions of Waseda University Archives (annual), reference services, and more.
