Conferral of Honorary Doctorate Degree to Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker, Former President of the Federal Republic of Germany


 Waseda University awarded its honorary doctorate degree to Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker, Former President of the Federal Republic of Germany on October 20, 2005 at the International Conference Center. (Reference: “What is “honorary doctorate degree”?(Japanese Only)) The grand ceremony was attended by many students, staff members and faculty of Waseda University. Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker’s achievements

 Dr. Richard von Weizsäcker was born in Stuttgart on April 15, 1920. He joined the Christian Democratic Union in 1945 after serving in the Second World War. He received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Göttingen in 1953. He became a member of the Bundestag in 1969, the Vice President of the Bundestag in 1979 and Mayor of the former West Berlin in 1981.
 In 1984, he was elected the 6th President of the Federal Republic of Germany. After leaving his post as the President, he has been involving himself in various political activities and charities.
