Report on the official trip to survey e-Learning in Beijing


Between November 6 and 9, 2005, inspection tour to Beijing, headed by Dr. Takashi Sakamoto (Executive Director of the Accreditation Council for Practical Abilities (NPO)), took place for the purpose of studying e-Learning currently practicing in China.

The inspection group was comprised of 7 delegates from 6 DCC member corporations, 16 faculty member delegates from 6 universities, and 7 delegates from 2 of Waseda University's affiliated corporations for a total of 30 members.

The group visited 6 organizations: the School of Continuing Education, Tsinghua University, the College of Continuing Education, Renmin University of China, ChinaEdu Corporation (a corporation that came out of Renmin University of China), the School of Distance Learning, Peking University, the Beijing Office of Waseda University, and Founder Group Corp. (a corporation that came out of Peking University).

At Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China and Peking University, the outlines and characteristics of efforts relating to distance education at each of the universities were presented, followed by the exchange of opinions with inspection group delegates.

At ChinaEdu Corporation and Founder Group Corp., descriptions of the history of academic-industrial cooperation between each company and the university that was its participating parent body, and explanations of future business strategy were presented. The DCC corporation members, as well as most of the other delegates were definitely able to get a feel for the potential for business development that exists in China.
