Message from the President

Mr. Takagi Naoji, Executive Director, Waseda University Chairman of the Digital Campus Consortium Steering Committee
Mr. Nojima Eiichiro
Vice President, Waseda University/President of the Digital Campus Consortium
The activities of the DCC began in 1999 with the aim of furthering academic-industrial cooperation in the field of education. The consortium's activities have been broken into three-year blocks with various projects undertaken in Phases 1 and 2, and we started the Phase 3 in 2005.
Among our activities so far, we have made progress in the creation of academic databases which form the foundation for education, and conducted e-Learning experiments focusing on on-demand lectures. In these past 6 years we have produced many significant results.
In Phase 3, the DCC will further develop and enhance these activities, and by facilitating open education, the consortium will cultivate human resources with the ability to thrive in international industry, and will promote various projects with the objective of returning the benefits to society.
In practical terms, with the DCC as the main body, and with the cooperation of member corporations and participating universities, the consortium will aim towards the realization of the Asia Cyber College (ACC), a cyber-education institution with a particular focus on on-demand lectures.
In order to achieve this goal the DCC will further expand the Cyber University Consortium (CUC) which was developed in Phase 2 based mainly on combined seminars with universities from various Asian nations. The DCC plans to push ahead with activities using the CUC as a foundation for the ACC.
Furthermore, the activities of the Forum for On-Demand Lecture Circulation (FOLC), which was formed with the objective of distributing on-demand lectures between participating higher education institutions, play an important role in building the foundations for the ACC, and the DCC will therefore provide support.
Cultivating global human resources that will make significant contributions in Asia requires a common basis among the various Asian countries. The DCC plans to formulate standard criteria for measuring practical abilities, and to actively support the Accreditation Council for Practical Abilities (ACPA), a specified NPO that provides accreditation for practical abilities.
We sincerely hope that you will take onboard the objectives that we are trying to achieve and provide us with your valuable support.
