１．Admission Requirements 出願資格

１－１．「私は高校生ですが、出願資格はありますか」

Q. I have just finished High School. Can I apply?

出願に際しては、学士の学位を取得した者、または学士の学位取得見込み（日本の大学の学部に相当する過程に在籍中）である者に限られます。本課程は大学受験の為のプログラムではありません。

A. Unfortunately, you are required to be an undergraduate (university student) or university graduate to apply for the program. It is not a program for students who want to prepare for entering the universities.

１－２．「年齢制限はありますか」

Q. Is there any upper age limit to apply for the course?

出願するにあたり、特に年齢の上限はございません。

A. There is no upper age limit to apply for the course.

１－３．「日本語を学習した経験がない（または日本語が少ししか分からない）のですが、出願資格はありますか」

Q. I have no previous Japanese Language study. Can I apply?

Q. I have only learned Hiragana and Katakana. Can I apply?

Q. I have little knowledge of Japanese Language. Can I apply?

入学後に行われるプレイスメントテストのレベル（１～８）によりコースが決まります。日本語の学習経験があることが望ましいですが、必須ではありません。出願条件を満たしていれば大丈夫です。

A. Enrolled students will be assigned to appropriate levels (level 1-8) on the basis of Placement Test (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) which they will take before the course starts.

Previous Japanese Language study is highly recommended, but it is not mandatory.

You are eligible to apply as long as you meet admission requirements.

１－４．「日本語学校在学中に出願し、卒業後に入学することができますか」

Q. Can I apply while I am at JapaneseLanguageSchool?

出願条件を満たしていれば大丈夫です。入学が許可された場合は、入国管理局にてご自身でビザの資格を変更する手続きが必要です。

A. You can apply as long as you qualify the requirements.

If you apply and allowed to enter, you must go to the immigration office and arrange to change your visa status yourself.

２．Application Procedure 出願方法　

２－１．「出願の方法（国費、交換、私費）を教えてください」

Q. How do I apply?

別科日本語専修課程に出願するためにはいくつか方法があります。

１．個人（私費）で出願する。

個人で申請する場合は、別科日本語専修課程募集要項に従い、出願期間内に全ての出願書類を日本語教育研究センターへ送付してください。

２．交換留学生として出願する。

　早稲田大学と交換留学協定を結んでいる大学にいる場合は、交換留学生としてこのプログラムに申請できる可能性があります。交換留学についての詳しい情報は、留学センターのホームページでご確認ください。

３．国費留学生（文部科学省）として出願する場合は、日本大使館やあなたの国の領事館にお問い合わせください。もし、日本政府から奨学金が認められたら、ご自身で大学に申請する必要はありません。文部科学省が日本の大学への入学を手配してくれます。ただし、どの大学に入学したいかの希望を出すことはできますが、その決定は大学との話し合いの後で文部科学省の判断に委ねられます。

A. There are a few ways to apply for the Intensive Japanese Language Program.

１．One is to apply as an independent (self-paying) student.

When applying independently, please read “Intensive Japanese Language Admission Information” carefully and submit all application documents to Center for Japanese Language in prescribed application period.

２．One is to apply as an exchange student.
If your university has an academic exchange agreement with Waseda university, you have a chance to apply for the program as an exchange student. For more information regarding the exchange program, please check the website of Center for International Education.

３．If you would like to apply for the Japanese government (Monbusho) scholarship, please make contact with the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your country. If you are granted the Japanese Government Scholarship, it is not necessary for you to apply for a university by yourself. The Ministry of Education will arrange your entrance to a Japanese university.
However, in this case, even though you can submit a list of your preferences of universities you want to enter it is up to the Ministry of Education to decide after a consultation with a university.

２－２．「出願書類の入手方法を教えてください」

Q. How can I obtain an application form?

2008年度入試より、国内出願・国外出願を問わず、全ての書類をホームページからのダウンロードのみとさせていただきます。願書の郵送は行いませんのでご了承ください。

なお、ダウンドードによる願書入手ができない方に限り、日本語センターへご相談ください。

A. You can obtain all application documents by downloading from our web site. Please note that application documents are available by downloading only and not available by mail.
If you do not have any access to the Internet and cannot download the application documents, then please consult with Center for Japanese Language.

３．Application Documents 出願書類

３－１．「Study Planを英語で書いてもよいですか」

Q. Can I write a study plan in English?

留学計画書は出願者ご自身が、日本語で記入してください。まだ日本語初心者で自信がない場合は、できるだけ日本語で書いた上で不十分なところを英語で書き加えてもかまいません。日本語学習経験がないため日本語で記入できない場合に限り、他の言語で記入することもできます。日本語または英語以外の言語で記入する場合は、必ず日本語または英語の翻訳を添付してください。

A. Study Plan is required to be written by the applicant in Japanese. If you are a real beginner, you may write it in Japanese as much as you can and complement it in English. If you never study Japanese and cannot fill out in Japanese, you can write it in other languages. If not writing in Japanese or English, add a translation written in Japanese or English.

３－２．「出願者評価は日本語教員または卒業した（または在学中の）大学の教員からしか受け付けないのですか」

Q. Does Evaluation Form have to be written by a Japanese language teacher or a professor/lecturer from my university?

出願者評価は日本語の講師や大学の担当教授・講師に書いてもらう必要があります。ただし、大学が海外だったり、教授や講師が退職して連絡が取れない場合、大学を卒業して大分年月が経ってしまった場合等教員からの評価が困難な場合は、職場の上司など、あなたを良く知る方から書いてもらっても結構です。

A. It is highly recommended that the evaluation form to be completed by your Japanese language teacher or professor/lecturer. If it is difficult to get the form completed by them for certain reasons, such as your graduated university is overseas, your professor/lecturer has retired and cannot be contacted, it has been many years since you have graduated university, etc., you may get someone else who knows you well, such as your boss, to fill out the form.

３－３．「日本語能力証明書がないのですが・・・」

Q. I don't have Certificate of Japanese Language Proficiency.

日本語能力証明書がない場合は、日本語学習期間、レベル、成績など書かれた大学や日本語学校からの手紙など、日本語のレベルを証明するものを提出してください。

A. If you don't have Certificate of Japanese Language Proficiency, please submit any kind of proof to certain your level of Japanese, such as a letter either from your university or your Japanese Language School stating the length of study, level of proficiency achieved, grade and language ability.

３－４．「卒業証明書・在学証明書・成績証明書・出願者評価は、『願書』とは別送で大学から直接郵送しても良いですか」

Q. Can "Certificate of Graduation", "Certificate of Enrollment", "Transcripts of records of university", "Evaluation Form" be sent directly from my university to your office, Center for Japanese Language Office, separately to my application forms?

出願書類は卒業した大学から直接送ることも可能です。別送する際には、各大学から送られるものがあなたのものであると確実にわかるようにしてください。また、提出書類チェックリストの別送にチェックし、必ず出願期間内に送るようにしてください。

A. Application documents can be sent to us directly from your graduated university. When you sent documents separately, please make sure that your name and details are clearly stated on them. In addition, please check “to be sent separately” on the “Checklist for Documents Submission” and make sure that they are sent to us by the deadline.

３－５．「出願書類の原本を選考後に返却して欲しいのですが・・・」

Q. I want my original documents such as Certificate of Graduation and Birth Certificate that I have submitted with my application forms, to be sent back after the selection process has finished.

原本の返却をご希望の場合は、原本とコピー、「提出書類返却依頼書」を同封してください。選考会修了後にご返送させていただきます。ただし、返送中の書類の紛失や破損について早稲田大学は責任を負いかねますのでご注意ください。もし提出書類がひとつしかないものの場合は、原本証明をしたコピーをご提出ください。

A. If you would like any of your original documents to be sent back, please enclose the original documents and photocopies of them with “Request Form for Return of Submitted Materials”. We will send them back after the selection process is finished. However, please note that WasedaUniversity has no responsibility for any lost or damaged documents during sending them back. If the documents are your only ones, please submit certified true copies of the originals.

4. Applying for Certificate of Eligibility
在留資格認定証明書申請

４－１．「在留資格認定証明書申請書類のその１－９日本における連絡先とありますが、日本の住所が無い場合は何と書けば良いですか」

Q. Regarding the "Application for Certificate of Eligibility Prescribed Forms", Part 1 Item No. 9 "Address in Japan", I do not currently have a Japan address. What should I write in this section?

日本に住んでいる知り合いや、日本での滞在先として予定している家族や友達の家などがあれば、その方の住所と電話番号を書いてください。日本に知り合いがいない場合は空欄のままで結構です。

A. If you know someone who resides in Japan or you are planning to stay at your family's or friends' place in Japan, where you can be contacted, please write that person's address and phone number.
If you do not know anyone who resides in Japan, please leave this section blank.

４－２．「自身が学費を負担する場合、経費支弁書は必要ないのですか」

Q. Do I need to fill out the "Written Oath for Defraying Expenses" if I am using my own money that I've saved to pay for everything?

自費で負担する場合は、「経費支弁書」に記入する必要はございません。

A. You don't need to fill out the "Written Oath for Defraying Expenses" if you are using your own money.

４－３．「経費支弁者はその学生（本人）であれば、最低預金残高がいくら必要ですか」

Q. How much do I need to have in my bank account?

預金残高証明書はビザの申請に使用されるものです。銀行口座には１年間の授業料や生活費を補うのに十分なお金が必要です。（授業料のほかに、生活費は約1,700,000円ぐらいを目安としてください。）

A. Proof of account of balance is used to apply for your visa. You need to have sufficient amount to cover your tuition fees and living expenses for one year in Japan in your bank account (living expenses of approximately 1.7 million yen).

５．Confirmation of Application Receipt and Screening Results
出願受理と選考結果の確認

５－１．「入学願書を日本語センターに送りましたが、届いたかどうか知りたいです。」
「出願書類受理通知（受験票）がまだ届きません。いつ頃届きますか。」

Q. Can I confirm that the center has received my application documents?

Q. I have not received "Application Receipt Notice (Admission Card)" from Center for Japanese Language. When can I receive it?

当センターで入学願書を受理した出願者には、全員に出願書類受理通知（受験票）を発送いたします。（スケジュールはこちらをご参照ください。）いつ頃到着するかはあなたのお住まいの地域や郵便事情によって異なります。出願書類受理通知発送日から２週間たっても届かない場合には、cjl@list.waseda.jpまでご連絡ください。それ以前のお問い合わせには応じかねます。

A.We will send "Application Receipt Notice (Admission Card)" to all applicants after their application documents arrive. (Please refer to the schedule.)
When it arrives to you depends on the area you live in and its postal service condition. Please contact cjl@list.waseda.jp if the Application Receipt Notice does not reach you in 2 weeks. Any inquiry cannot be answered before the above dates.

５－２．「出願書類受理通知（受験票）とは何ですか」

Q. I received "Application Receipt Notice (Admission Card)" from Center for Japanese Language. What is it?

入学願書を受け取った後、全ての出願者にお送りします。「出願書類受理通知（受験票）」は出願番号をお知らせするもので、入学願書を受け取った証明となるものです。宛名ラベルに書かれたご住所へお送りすることになりますので、名前とご住所は正確にご記入ください。「出願書類受理通知（受験票）」を受け取られたら、入学手続きが完了するまで大切に保管ください。

A. We will send "Application Receipt Notice (Admission Card)" to all applicants after we receive the application materials. It informs the Application Number and proves that we have received your application. It will be sent to the address written on the Address Seals, so please fill in your name and address clearly.
When you receive the " Application Receipt Notice (Admission Card)” from us, please keep it until all the admission procedures are completed.

５－３．「合否の結果は、いつ頃どのようにして知ることができますか。」

Q. When and how can I know the screening result?

合否はホームページにて、合格された出願者の受験番号を提示します。また、合否にかかわらず出願者全員に郵便でもお送りいたします。（スケジュールはこちらをご参照ください。）なお、合否に関するお問い合わせには一切応じられませんのでご了承ください。

A. The screening results will be notified through the website. Application numbers who passed the screening will be announced. We will also send out the screening results to all applicants by mail. (Please refer to the schedule.) Please note that we cannot answer for any inquiries regarding the screening results.

６．Intensive Japanese Program 別科日本語専修課程

６－１．「入学者数の定員は何名ですか、また出願数は何件ですか」

Q. How many students are admitted each semester?

１学期で約40名です。出願者数については、公表していません。

A. We admit about 40 students each semester. We do not release the number of received applications.

６－２．「コースはいつからですか、また学期はいつからいつまでですか」

Q. When does the course start and semesters begin and finish?

1年間は次の２学期に分かれます。
春学期：4月１日から9月20日まで

秋学期：9月21日から3月31日まで

毎年、日程が変更になりますので、ホームページでご確認ください。

A. The academic year consists of two semesters:

Spring Semester : April 1 to September 20

Fall Semester : September 21 to March 31

Calendar is different each year so please refer to the academic calendar on our website．

６－３．「授業の時間帯は、いつですか」

Q. What time do classes run?

授業は、以下の時間で行われます。

A. Classes run as follow:

全体の授業時間は、１日当り3～4.5時間（2～3クラス）です。

1週間当り13～14クラスを受講します。

Total class hours are approximately 3-4.5 hours(2-3 classes) per day.

Students will register for approximately 13-14 classes per week.

６－４．「1学期のみ受講しても良いですか」

Q. Can I just study for 1 semester?

別科日本語専修課程を修了するためには、２学期間受講し、26単位を取得する必要があります。

A. You must study for 2 semesters and obtain 26 credits to receive a Certificate of Completion.

６－５．「修了に必要な単位数を教えてください」

Q. How many credits can I get by completing the course?

１年間以上在籍し、所定の認定試験に合格して２６単位（原則として各学期１３単位）を取得した学生は、別科日本語専修課程を修了することができます。

A. Student who has been matriculated in the Program for a minimum of one year, has passed the prescribed examinations and earned the prescribed number of credits (26 credits, 13 credits/semester) is deemed to have completed the Program and receives a Certificate of Completion.

７．VISA ビザ

７－１．「ビザの手続き方法を教えてください」

Q. How do I obtain a visa?

在留資格認定証明書の取得―国外出願の方法

日本に入国する外国人志願者は有効なパスポートを保持し、ビザを取得する必要があります。ビザを申請する際、パスポートとともに在留資格認定証明書を出身国の日本国大使館あるいは領事館に提出しなければなりません。外国人志願者に対して、早稲田大学は法務省入国管理局から在留資格認定証明書を入手する仲介を行っています。遅れずに手続きを完了するため、出願の際、以下の書類一式を日本語教育センターに提出してください。なお、入国管理局は書類の追加を要請する場合があるのでご了承ください。

A. [Certificate of Eligibility - "Foreign Applications" Method]
An applicant of foreign national who seeks to enter Japan and enroll as a student needs to possess a valid passport and receive a valid visa. Upon application of visa, an applicant is required to submit a "Certificate of Eligibility" together with his/her passport to a Japanese embassy or consulate in his/her own country. For foreign applicants, WasedaUniversity acts as a proxy to obtain the Certificate of Eligibility from the Immigration Bureau of the Ministry of Justice. In order to complete this process in time, applicants are strongly requested to submit a complete set of the following materials at the time of application to Center for Japanese Language. Please note that in some cases the Immigration Bureau may require additional materials.

８．Housing 住居

８－１．「宿舎についてのサポートはありますか」

Q. Is there any support for housing?

残念ながら、個人で出願された学生に対する宿舎のサポートはおこなっておりません。ご自身で宿舎を探していただくことになります。合格者には、学生寮やホームステイについての情報をご案内いたしますので、ご自身でお問い合わせの上で申し込み手続き等を行ってください。

A. Unfortunately, we do not provide any support for housing for independent students. Students are requested to find accommodation by him/herself. We will send housing information about students dormitory and homestay program for successful applicants. You may contact directly to the companies for further procedures.

８－２．「寮は、ありますか」

Q. Is there a dormitory?

個人で出願された学生は早稲田大学の留学生寮に入ることができません。東京近辺にある学生寮への入居をご希望の場合は、『学生会館』が留学生支援プログラムを提供しています。下のＵＲＬを参考にしてください。

A. Unfortunately, Independent students cannot live in the International Students dormitory in Waseda University. If you would like to apply for student dormitories around Tokyo area, "Gakusei Kaikan" provides supporting program for international students. Please refer to the pages below.

８－３．「アパートは、どのようにして探すことができますか」

Q. How can I find an apartment?

日本でアパートを借りる際、次の二点に注意する必要があります。

日本の習慣では、敷金として３，４か月分の賃貸料と、所定の礼金を払う必要があります。民間のアパートを契約する際には少なくとも５，６か月分の賃貸料を準備しなければなりません。

また、日本在住の保証人が必要な場合もあります。

A. First of all, when you rent an apartment in Japan, you need to keep in mind these two points.

*As a Japanese custom, one must pay a deposit of 3-4 month's rent and a certain fee as key money in order to rent an apartment. Therefore to sign a contract for a private apartment, one must have at least 5-6 months rent prepared.

*When renting housing one might be required to have a guarantor who lives in Japan.

８－４．「日本に保証人がいません。アパートを借りる時、早稲田大学が保証人になることができますか」

Q. I do not have any guarantor in Japan. Can WasedaUniversity be a guarantor when renting an apartment?

保証人が必要なアパートに住みたいが、日本在住の保証人が見つからない学生のために、早稲田大学が保証人となることができます。その際、年間4500円をお支払いいただきます。申請は日本国内からのみ可能です。

A. If you would like to live in an apartment where guarantor is necessary, and if you do not have any guarantor living in Japan, then Waseda University can be your guarantor by paying 4,500 JPY (for one year) . You can apply only in Japan.

９．Other その他

９－１．「奨学金は、ありますか」

Q. Is there a scholarship?

残念ながら、別科日本語専修課程の学生が受給可能な奨学金はほとんどありません。したがって、志願者は出願前に勉学及び生活に十分な資金を用意しなければなりません。

ご参考までに、2009年4月入学者が受給した奨学金には以下のものがあります。

A. Unfortunately, there is a little chance for students of Intensive Japanese Language Program to receive a scholarship, so applicants are required to prepare sufficient funds for their study and living in Japan before application.

For your reference, the scholarship available for students who entered in April 2009 was as follows.

９－２．「私は交換留学生です。単位の互換はどのようになっていますか」

Q. I am an exchange student. How many credits will be transferred to my home university?

大学によって単位制度が異なるため、本課程で取得した単位がそのまま所属大学の単位に互換されるとは限りません。本課程修了により互換される単位数については、所属大学にお問い合わせください。

A. Number of credits you earned may not be the same number of credits transferred to your home university as each university has different system. Please consult your university for number of credits to be earned in your university by completing the course.

９－３．「別科卒業生の卒業後の進路は、どうなっていますか」

Q. What do students normally do after the completion of the course?

日本語あるいは他の専攻分野の研究を続けるため大学院に進学する学生、日本や本国で就職する学生、在籍中の大学に戻る学生もいます。

A. Some students proceed to GraduateSchool to study Japanese further or their majors, some find jobs in either Japan or in their countries and some return to their universities after completion of the course.

９－４．「早稲田大学に、夏の日本語プログラムはありますか」

Q. Is there a summer program at WasedaUniversity?

A. Center for Japanese Language, WasedaUniversity offers Summer Japanese Program or Waseda Oregon office runs Waseda oregon summer program.

早稲田大学日本語教育研究センターが実施している夏期日本語プログラム、また、早稲田・オレゴンオフィスが運営している早稲田・オレゴン夏期プログラムがあります。

９－５．「日本語の短期コースはありますか」

Q. Are there any short courses available?

現在、早稲田大学は夏期プログラム以外の短期コースを設置していません。
