Club activities provide an opportunity for students to enhance their internationalism and human relations.
Studying at Waseda University also includes countless opportunities to participate in club activities. With over 700 official recognized clubs and over 3000 non-recognized clubs, Waseda University offers opportunities to join academic, fine arts, sport clubs and a variety of other interesting clubs. Through joining these clubs students can make new friends and broaden their human network. Giving students meaningful volunteer opportunities is an integral part of Waseda University's vision of cultivating global citizens for the 21st century and beyond. In order to support students who wish to become volunteers, Waseda University founded the Hirayama Ikuo Volunteer Centre in April 2002. This center many registered volunteers that have engaged in volunteering activities around the world including Afghanistan, Lao, China, Thailand, Nepal, Kenya, America and many other countries.

The center's membership includes students (18 years and older) as well as former graduates who are dedicated to contributing to Japan, and the world at various levels, such as education assistance, international cooperation and environmental preservation.

Waseda actively supports student volunteering, firmly believing that through volunteering, students are investing in the world at large and their own future by creating a network of friends and colleagues. Through volunteering, students learn valuable skills that can be used in their future work place, and most importantly, they can forge themselves into global citizens that are sensitive to global issues and that are communicative, creative and sympathetic to others.
